About SMSE...

Established in 2003, St Margaret's String Ensemble began with 8 budding musicians. Subsequently, it began to recruit students with the passion for music, even if they had the minimal background in music and string instrumental playing, thus providing many students with the opportunity of learning a string instrument. The ensemble now has more than 30 musicians, under the tutelage of Mr Siew Yi Li, the ensemble's conductor and Violin 1 instructor.
The Ensemble has performed in school events such as Speech Day, Cluster Arts Festivals and in the Musicals - Anne of Green Gables and Clash of the Elements (2005 and 2006), and the Cantabile, a concert held in 2007 in August to showcase the CCA's progress. Other performances include the Grace Concert, which was held in 2010 at Catholic Junior College. SMSE participated in 2007's Singapore Youth Festival Central Judging Competition for the first time, and managed to clinch a bronze award. In 2009, a bronze award was attained and a silver award in 2011.
